Deadliest Catch

One of the TV shows I miss watching is Deadliest Catch at Discovery Channel. It’s a documentary that shows real life events on fishing vessels during Alaskan king crab season. You would learn why it’s entitled Deadliest Catch when you see all the risks the crew have to face during fishing. The season is done during the winter months when the water is freezing, the seas are turbulent, and you have to haul in pots that can weigh up to a ton when full, not to mention several days work with very little sleep. This job is called the most dangerous in the US. Injuries are often attributed to working with heavy machinery and gear, with fatalities caused by drowning r hypothermia. I wouldn’t be surprised if the crew would call in a Jones Act lawyer. They say all these dangers are worth it if the season was a successful one. Deckhands can be paid up to tens of thousands of dollars for a few days work if they have a good catch.
