Sleepy Head

Some of my friends have a hard time sleeping at night because they got used to sleeping late because of online work. Some needs the help of natural sleep aids so they’ll have more energy the following day. I sometimes experience that too when I have a deadline to beat both for online work and my regular job. Thank God for those aids, the sleepy head like me makes me feel as if I slept for eight hours even if it's just four hours.

7 Easy Tips to Hosting Environmentally Friendly Meetings

1. Go paperless by using new media and electronic technology. Create a conference website. Offer electronic registration. Advertise through Facebook page or email.
2. Conserve energy. Look for a venue which has individually controlled lighting and air-conditioning in their rooms so these can be switched off when rooms are not in use. Use rooms with natural lighting and ventilation.
3. Save water. Waterless urinals or dual flush toilets reduce water consumption. Choose a venue that has a linen reuse option for towels and bed linen.
4. Reduce your transportation carbon footprint. Choose a venue that is accessible to participants. Car pool. Are alternative means of transport available?
5. Go light on the packaging. Select venues that use bulk dispensers for its shampoo, soap, toilet paper; sugar and cream bowls instead of sachets. Biodegradable food packaging is a must.
6. Eat green. Include vegetarian and organic meals. Plan to use locally grown and sourced ingredients.
7. Share the passion! Tell your participants and speakers about the efforts you are making to green your meeting.

Cooler Weather

One of the great things I like about this time of the year is the weather. It’s colder now compared to the other months. Though it’s sometimes barely noticeable, a drop of a degree or two is still welcome indeed. Cooler weather means less sweat for people so their acne wouldn’t be aggravated. Still, acne could be persistent at times, so better stock up some md clear just to be sure to keep acne in check

Spreading the Christmas Cheer

It’s almost December and the Christmas rush has started here. Everybody’s buying presents for their friends and loved ones. We’ve barely started our Christmas shopping, as we have to visit the season open bargain centers and bazaars. We also have to make a list of people we’ll be giving presents to. As a way of helping the environment, we’ve decided to give recycled Christmas cards. This way, we can still spread the holiday cheers around just like before, and still do our share in saving the Earth.

Getting That Toned Look

So many of us want to "tone" our bodies. What exactly does that mean and how do we achieve it? Well, first of all, toning your body means getting more muscle definition and tighter, firmer muscles.

To really get toned, you don't have to spend a bunch of money. You won't even have to spend money from the emergency cash loans you had to get. Just follow a few ideas and tips to set up a training regime to achieve your goals.

Many people think that being toned means you have fabulous muscle definition. And keep in mind that the toned concept is gender based. Women want to get toned, men what to bulk up, but they are essentially the same thing. The result is a lean appearance, which is achieved by lifting weights, and the only difference is how heavy the weights are.

Interestingly, while weightlifting can change your body's appearance, your muscles are actually limited in how much they can truly change. Your muscles can grow stronger and larger or smaller and weaker. If you are a woman who is looking to gain more definition, then in addition to those numerous weightlifting repetitions, you'll also need to look at and adjust your caloric intake to help with the weight loss and fat reduction.

Many people mistakenly think that they can "spot tone." For example, a person may want to just tone their arms and will only do exercises that work those areas. However, the fat must also be reduced in those areas to achieve that toning. You need to reduce calories as well as engage in some cardiovascular activities (to raise your heart rate) so you can achieve your goal.

Take some time to actually investigate how to truly achieve the toned look you want through diet and exercise.

Tips for Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain

It's easy to overindulge during the holidays. Letting go of your food inhibitions, though, can mean gaining weight rapidly. The holidays offer temptations of all kinds, but it is possible to make smart decisions that will help you avoid weight gain.

Sometimes I think that schools should offer primers on subjects like this. They could teach classes such as "how to stay slim during the holidays 101." It would be like a GMAT prep course for average people that don't want to bulk up during the winter.

Unfortunately, these classes aren't readily available. At least you can use the Internet to get some smart tips!

Tip #1 Avoid alcohol at holiday parties.

Alcoholic beverages have lots of calories in them. Just a couple drinks can put you way over your daily caloric needs. Choose water or diet sodas over alcohol and you can avoid those excess calories.

Tip #2 Eat before going to holiday parties.

Eating before you go to a party might sound like a bad idea because you will end up eating twice. The truth, though, is that having a low-calorie snack before going to dinner means that you won't be as hungry when you get there. Chances are that the dinner will have high-calorie, high-fat foods. Anything that you can do to eat less of those will help you keep the weight off.

Tip #3 Keep up with your regular exercise schedule.

When the holidays get hectic, people become tempted to stop exercising. That's a bad idea. Exercising regularly not only helps you burn calories, it also helps you manage stress. Instead of having a stressful holiday season that encourages you to eat and drink too much, you will be relaxed and ready to make intelligent decisions about what you consume.

Shopping for Clothes at Zappos

I love the Christmas season but not as much as my fourteen-year-old daughter does. She is like others her age in that she loves getting things for Christmas. She is also into Christmas music, baking and decorating - in essence, the whole nine yards. If I left it up to her she would be playing Christmas music in July.

Since she is older I told her I would let her come with me and we would search for some Black Friday deals together. She is so excited but, being a mom, I hope that this can be something that will bond us closer together for years to come.

Because my kids are growing up, gifts have become more practical through the years. Instead of the traditional tea pots and Barbie dolls, I buy more games, necklaces, earring, shoes, socks and clothing. Much of the clothing I purchase comes from Zappos where they have items for men, women, girls, boys and some specialty sizes available. Their clothing items include jackets and hoodies, shorts, jeans, shirts, tops, pants, sweatshirts, intimate items, coats, dresses, blazers, suits, pajamas and more. They literally have items that please every member of my family and that is no small feat because they all have such different tastes.

They always ship on time and the prices are very reasonable. The best thing about this website I found was the quality of the merchandise. This clothing will last for years and, as a mother of two boys of which has had their fair share of jeans, this is very important to me.

I love the ease of shopping online, the wide selections to choose from and the fast service. There has been no reason for me to shop anywhere else for clothing because they have it all.

Easy Holiday Embellishments for Your Home

The holidays are fast approaching and I have been thinking of ways to make my home more festive. I love the look of holiday pillows on the couch and colored tassels or tiebacks for my draperies. A bow or cover on the back of dining room seating makes an otherwise ordinary dining room pop with holiday excitement. The trouble is I don't want to spend a lot for decorations. I tried a number of projects and wanted to share some of the things I did that were easy and very affordable.

T-shirt Pillows

Gather up a few t-shirts that you no longer use. I am not talking about your son's favorite Baby Phat t-shirt, but old holiday shirts that are no longer worn. Wash them and trim off the sleeves. Turn them inside out and draw a rectangle that is clear of any seams or binding and centered over a design element. Try to draw a rectangle the size of an existing pillow. That way you can cover your everyday couch pillows with your new holiday covers without purchasing new pillow forms. Cut out a lining from an old sheet. Stitch the sides together leaving a 5-inch opening on one side. Turn right side out and press. Slip your pillow cover over your existing pillow and slip stitch the cover shut. You are now the proud owner of a lovely (and almost free) holiday pillow. You probably won't want to stop at one.

Tie Backs

Inventory your decorations and pick out floral stems, odd lengths of ribbon, and any other odds and ends that inspire you. Choose some floral or ribbons that match your living room color scheme. Fashion tie backs by decorating two plain or festive pieces of ribbon long enough to tie around your pair of draperies. Add floral elements, buttons, glitter or anything your think looks good.

Christmas Shopping

A lot of malls are having a 3-day sale which started today and ends on Sunday. I heard from one friend that some of her colleagues would like to avail of payday cash advance so they can save some money when they go shopping for Christmas gifts this weekend. Their payday falls next Tuesday which means mall wide sales are over and we’re not sure when will they have it again. As for me, I have not started my Christmas shopping yet, hopefully after our planning session at work, I’ll have time to shopping.

Better Bathrooms

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. It may be the smallest and have the least fixtures, but its function is undoubtedly very important for all. Even with a space that small, it’s important to have the best and most comfortable layout and fixtures that you can get. Thank goodness for betterbathrooms.com that they have so many designs to choose from. They practically have everything you need for the bathroom. If you haven’t decided on the kind of tiles you want for the bathroom, you could even order up to three sample tiles at a reasonable cost. Stone water basins are also quickly gaining popularity, and they have those too, and they come in different shapes. If you think bathtubs are expensive, you should really check out their site to see the superb prices. The site also offers bathroom suites with modern, chic, or traditional designs with prices that are absolutely a great bargain. Hydromassage shower cabins with six body jets are also available, so are Jacuzzi and whirlpool baths. They also have heated towel rails and mirrors that even some top notch hotels do not have. The site is user-friendly as well that each product page you go to, it already says there if it’s in stock, and if you have a question about the item, they’re just a click away. And what’s even better is that you can rate and review the products and it’ll show up on the page. On my next purchase of bathroom fixtures, I’d surely check out the site.

Missing the TV Series

I’ve been so busy lately that I don’t even have time to download nor watch my favorite tv series. The new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, Chuck, Fringe, and Glee started last September and I was able to watch a few episodes already. From what I remember the last episode I watch from the ongoing season is episode 3 or 4 and they are on episode 9 now! Wahhh!!!! I do hope I’ll find the time to watch them soon.

Dress

I’ve been looking for a dress to use to work and I suddenly found this one on one of the boutiques at the mall. Unfortunately, there’s no size available for me. They said that the style has been out for about a month already thus the size availability. They said they’ll be having new stocks this December so I hope I’ll find something that will suit my taste. :)

Garage Sale

Last weekend, my parents decided to sell some of the stuff they brought from the US through a garage sale. They have several items such as clothes, shoes, curtains, bed sheets, bags, tools, and a lot more. The response on the first day was overwhelming that I decided to join them on the second day by selling some of my kids’ stuff that we are not using anymore. I decided to sell their stuffed toys, pillows and some shoes, prices ranging from P5 to P100. I was shocked when we got home from church that almost all the toys are gone. We are away from home for only an hour to hear mass and when we got home, my sister showed me how many toys are left, which were also bought by the time we closed the gate.

It was a good experience having the garage sale because we were able to help people by selling them hardly used items, and some are even new, to a very low price, and at the same time earning from it. My parents are thinking of having one again two weeks from now, so I’m also thinking of what to sell again. J

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The first part of the HP7 book on film started showing last Thursday and I haven't seen it. I'm still asking the husband when will we watch it, plus my sister wants to watch with us too because until now she's still not familiar with the characters. :)

I have not read nor heard any feedbacks or reviews about the movie and I don't plan to but I'm really hoping it won't fail me. I still don't know when will we watch the movie but I'm hoping we will get to see it this weekend. I'll ask my sister if we can see it on Monday since it's holiday here. I hope she doesn't have a schedule on that day.

I'm really excited to see this!

Perk Up Dull Skin

Chilly days can make your skin look dull and lifeless. How do you get your face to glow in cooler weather? Here are some tips:

Foundation. Use sheer foundation for a flawless, luminous look. "When it's cold, your face looks dull and your aura is a bit gloomy. A touch of foundation with gloss will make you look fresh and radiant."
Powder and bronzer. Dab on a little powder. "You have to use a lot of powder in summer to absorb the oil. But when it's cold, you need less powder". Add bronzer over powder to acquire a nice glow.
Lipstick. Tone down the shade of your lip gloss or lipstick. Use matte or lighter shades. "If you use a glossy shade on your lips, your face may look too shiny and not beautifully radiant."

Sale!!!

Online friends and even relatives are excited for next week for the Black Friday sale. Some of my friends are searching on the net looking for announcements so they can plan what to buy next week. My relatives on the other hand sent us an email informing us of the stores and ranges of prices that they already saw. I still don’t know what I plan to buy next week and I should probably make a list now so that when either my friends or relatives asked me what to buy, I’ll be ready.

Laptop

I’m looking for a good deal this Black Friday sale for a laptop computer since I need one for personal use. The one I’m using now is issued by the office and I’m scared that I might lose important files especially when my kids play with it. Even a netbook is ok with me since it’s only the kids who will use it and also it’s very handy when we go out of town. I do hope I can score a good deal this sale.

Recovering

My husband recently had an operation and it is his first time ever to be hospitalized. His usual sickness is just flu or cough and colds. And so when he was rushed to the hospital due to ruptured appendix, I’m sure he was nervous and scared while he was at the exam table answering the questions from the doctors. We’re glad that the operation went well and he is now at home recovering. He was advised by his doctor to rest for 30 days and minimize strenuous activities while resting.

Walking

I recently joined my parents when they walk in the neighborhood early in the morning. The time is just perfect for me since my kids are still sleeping when I walk until the time I get home. We normally leave the house before 5:30am and are done a little past 6am. I am still thinking if I’ll be taking weight loss pills and while still contemplating on it, this walking could serve as means for me to exercise and hopefully lose weight. At the same time, I get to spend time with my parents while walking. :)

Christmas Season

Christmas season starts here in my part of the world as early as September. In our house, it’s only two days ago when we finally put up our Christmas tree and other Christmas decors. One of the many reasons includes my desire to have personalized christmas ornaments put into it. My parents said that since we were not able to order early for those ornaments, we just have to use the ones we have or buy at the mall. It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas this year for us since my parents are celebrating it here. :)

Sick of Moving?

Motion sickness is not an illness. It is a normal human reaction to being subjected to unusual movements. The delicate balancing system, which involves our eyes, inner ear, and brain becomes confused, producing a very unpleasant sensation usually accompanied by quite sever nausea and vomiting.

The amount of sickness experienced depends on the length of exposure to, and severity of, abnormal movement. Some people are more affected than others. Motion sickness is most common between the ages of 3 and 12. Seasickness is the most common form of motion sickness, although many people will experience problems when traveling by car or bus. Apart from not making the proposed trip, the main ways of avoiding motion sickness are by learning some behavioral measures or by using certain medicines. Several techniques are useful in preventing the problem.

  • If possible, be the driver of the vehicle or boat. If that’s not possible, keep mentally active.
  • Avoid tasks that involve scanning, for example, reading or counting things outside the vehicle.
  • Sit near to the center of the boat or car.
  • Try not to move your head around too much.
  • Fix your eyes on a distant point. If you can’t see outside, close your eyes.
  • Try lying down.

Mesothelioma

While I was browsing the net a few days ago, I saw a site that talks about a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. I didn’t know that there is a cancer like this and upon reading it, I’ve learned that this is caused by too much exposure from asbestos. I have also learned that there is a support system such as getting the services of a Houston asbestos lawyer that helps people who are victims of this rare cancer. It is good to know that you can rely on support system like this since having a cancer is really serious. All the help you can get, financial, emotional and even prayers, from friends and families will really be needed.

Artscow

One of the reasons I go to sleep late is the photo books I’m doing at artscow. I saw my friends’ photo books and I envy them and at the same time got inspired that I tried to make one also. I already have 3 photo books but since there are a lot of freebies given by artscow, I decided to make more. I plan to give one to my step MIL and also to my sister, and if I have time, I also want to give one to my parents and to my husband. And not only that, I also want to make a calendar for next year. I hope with all of that I’ll be able to beat the deadline so that I’ll have a nice gift for Christmas.

Derma Visit

Last Saturday, I went to see a dermatologist to check something on my chest that I think is infected already because it is sore and a little painful. When she saw it, she told me what it is and removed it. She gave me medications and creams for it and at the same time advised me to take natural acne treatments since she also saw some acne on my body. I do hope these treatments will lessen the acne!

Awake at 3AM

My husband woke me up a few hours ago to change the dressing on his tummy when he had an operation last week. We are going to visit his doctor tomorrow and he wants to see first if it is healing. And now that I can’t put myself back to sleep, here I am watching again Greys Anatomy. I’m not sure if among all the surgeries they did, if they got a hip replacement case already. I read before that there was a case filed about it when patients experienced pain after the surgery that they contacted a depuy hip recall attorney to defend for them. And yes, they won the case and got their claims. Below is the address of the lawyer who defended them in case you’re interested.

Oily No More

Oily skin has its pros and cons – it’s greasy to touch and is prone to blackheads and pimples but it also tends to age slower compared to other skin types, as natural oil protects it from fine lines and wrinkles. The best solution is to manage oily skin and minimize skin break-outs with these home remedies:

  • Keeps a bowl of water in the fridge and splash this cold water on your face three to four times a day. Cold water will not only leave you feeling refreshed but will also tighten the pores.
  • Neem leaves are excellent for pimples. Crush washed neem leaves to form a paste and apply this to the affected parts. Leave it on for at least an hour. Neem will help the pimples dry up faster.
  • For marks and blemishes left behind by pimples use calamine lotion. Just dab some lotion on the blemishes at bedtime and they will gradually fade away.
  • A great pack for oily skin is the chilled cucumber. Finely grate cucumber or blend it in the blender to form a paste. Chill in the fridge. Apply it on the face and relax for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water. For best results, repeat twice a week on cleansed face.

Richwell Sale

Most mommies I know are looking forward to this sale.

I was not able to go to the Toy Kingdom sale last weekend because I was at the hospital watching over my husband who had an operation. Now that he is out of the hospital, I’m thinking if I can tag him along to visit the richwell sale.

Below is their schedule so you can plan your visit.

Dates: November 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28
December 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 19 to 22

Time: Saturdays and Sundays – 9:00am to 6:00pm
Mondays to Fridays – 1:00 pm to 6:00pm

I went there last year with my sister and we were able to buy a lot of stuff for gifts on Christmas. I wonder what will be on sale this year. Btw, the sale is at Creative Trade Center No.6 Industria St., Bagumbayan, Quezon City.

Exchange Gifts

My online friends were talking about what type of gifts they will wish for the online exchange gift we organized. I already listed down my wish and I’m thinking if I’ll be going to add more or change the wish list that I have. I should probably ask something rare like that of products from United States Gold Bureau since this is one occasion we don’t do often. Some friends requested gift certificates or paypal money so that they will be the one to buy what they want and their mommy santa will have easier time in providing their wishes. I’m excited on what my mommy santa will give me!

Hazardous Home

The home can be a dangerous place if we are not cautious.  Among the common injuries are slips and falls, running through a glass door, or falling from a window or stair, and other ladder-related accidents.  Here are simple steps for a safer home:

  • Use non-slip mats in the bath and shower.
  • Wear non-slip shoes or slippers inside, not socks.
  • Make glass in doors visible, add stickers or frosting.
  • Tie up dangling cords and shorten power leads.
  • Put childproof safety catches on windows.
  • Ensure stairs are well lit (switches at top and bottom).

Renewal

I received an email from a friend who does managed hosting telling me that my other blog’s domain registration and hosting will expire this month. I’m so thankful that I chose her to do this because I always forget it’s expiration. She assured me not to worry because she’ll handle everything and I just have to pay her the corresponding fees. Thanks again A!

For Sale

A friend asked me to sell some Swarovski bracelets to others whom I think will be interested to buy accessories like those. I received a couple of inquiries already and we're hoping that those inquiries will turn into sale. I even received some inquiries on gold coins asking if I also sell those kinds. I told them I don't but that they can find it at US Gold Bureau and that they're known in the business already and they have good reviews. I told them that if only I have the money I would buy from them also to be used either for collection or investment.
