The past few years were years where the technology evolved pretty fast and very advanced. Several gadgets were available in the market that can help people be entertained and at the same time communicate better with the use of smart phones. There are also several game consoles to choose from for kids or even those kids at heart will really love. There’s xbox, Play station, Wii and the portable ones like PSP, DS, iPod Touch, etc. Some adults complain that these gadgets may be entertaining but can also be a source for children to be anti-social and also less active for they only sit in from of their televisions or computers playing by themselves and the only part of their body that is moving are their fingers.
As for cellular phones, these also became better year after year. Phones these days are not only for texting or calling or availing of free ringtones every now and then, but can also be used for sending emails, storing songs, can serve as camera, and playing games. These features are really great especially for people on the move. Those phone features are very useful for businessmen who needs to access their emails anywhere they are, or for others who would like to be entertained when they are traveling.
Some adults sometimes ask, with this day and age, when is the right time to provide children with cell phones? For me, I think children can be given cell phones when they are old enough to understand how to use it or when they commute going to school so that their parents will be able to check if they got to school safely. The age may vary depending on the maturity of the child. If he can understand the responsibility of having one, not only because he can use it for games, but mainly because he should use it so his parents can contact him or vise versa anytime they want. Children can use their parents’ cell phones for games provided there’s a time limit as to how long they can use it. I’m not sure if parents will agree with my thoughts but that’s what I plan to do with my children. I won’t be giving them cell phones if I think they don’t need it yet. :)
