Watch That Food

If you want to make sure that what you're eating is safe, here's a simple guide:
  • Food should be served at the required temperature. Hot soup should be served hot. A chicken dish that runs with pink juices is poorly cooked; return it to the waiter and ask for a replacement. Frozen or cold desserts should not be lukewarm.
  • Foods that have been boiled are generally safe.
  • Avoid undercooked or uncooked meat.
  • Avoid foods that have to be handled (with bare hands) a lot by the cook or the waiter.
  • Avoid ice in drinks if unsure about the quality of drinking water.
  • Avoid buffets where there are no food covers.
  • Avoid questionable delicacies offered by street vendors.
If you're up for some food-tasting adventure - trying on local delicacies - make sure you're near your hotel or temporary lodging. In case you experience stomach problems, you can save yourself the embarrassment of having to use the public toilet.

College Books

I have a cousin who’s now a college freshman. Her mom was complaining about the tuition fee and on other miscellaneous fees. Good thing though, she doesn’t have to buy most of her college books. The only ones she needs to buy are those of the work books and the ones used for laboratory.

I remember my college days. My mom had the same problem as her mom with regards to the tuition so I don’t have new books too. I think I only had new books during the first semester of my freshman year. Good thing I became a member of an organization in school during that semester and the members of the org especially those from the higher level, like the sophomores, were willing to sell their old books. So for the second semester, I told my mom not to worry anymore for I found some students that will sell their old books, and these books are in mint condition.

It was really a relief on my mom’s part because at least it will lessen the expenses. We all know the importance of books to students and not having one is really a challenge especially during exams. Thankfully, I did not have to worry on not having books during those times. I should probably share this story to my cousin and hope that this serves as her guide to buying text books. :)

LeapPad

I saw in leapfrog’s site that they are going to launch a new tablet designed for kids called the LeapPad. I’ve been contemplating on buying for my kids so I won’t have to share my laptop with them. I do hope though that it won’t be that expensive for I may have to buy two so that the kids won’t fight over one tablet. Anyhow, I read the features of the LeapPad and I think my kids are going to love it! Can’t wait for the launch!

Good Weather

We’re really glad that we have good weather this weekend and hopefully on the next coming days. The past week was really scary due to the storm that hit our country. Good thing the local officials are geared and ready for whatever will happen. I even saw some people they hired cutting branches of the trees with their echo chainsaw to prevent accidents. Last Friday it was raining non-stop that I packed my kids’ clothes and milk just in case we need to evacuate. Thank God despite the down pour, our street was not flooded. Anyhow, we’re praying for good weather this week for my parents’ arrival.

Belly Dancing

One of the things I miss doing the most is belly dancing. I love dancing and this is one of the dances / classes that I love attending when I go to the gym. It seems an easy dance but it’s not. I always feel numb in the arms when we start dancing already. I remember the teacher always tells us, “sacrifice for beauty” since most of us are complaining already. LOL! Also you need to properly execute the dance like the shimmy so you won’t look silly when dancing hehe! Unfortunately, my membership in the gym expired already and I have not renewed it nor converted it to life time membership. I badly need exercise and I also need to lose a great amount of weight and I hope I’ll be able to renew my membership to the gym again this year. Wish me luck!

The Benefits of Personalized Checks

Even the banking industry is now going to great lengths in order to keep with up modern technology. With almost everyone glued to their laptops and mobile phones 24/7, banks are trying to finds ways on how their clients can experience high quality and excellent banking service. Now you can even transfer funds or check your account balances online or thru text messaging.

Banking has truly gone a long way. Most account holders are also using their debit cards for just about anything: gas, food, groceries and shopping. But even in this modern society, there are still those who opt to the traditional method of using personalized checks. One of perks of using checks is that you can easily track and control your expenses. If you update your checkbook on a regular basis, you’ll be able to monitor your expenses and account status thus preventing you to incur an overdraft.

The customized design is also something that keeps the customer’s interest. From the background image to the text printed, everything will be according to your style preference. Only one important thing that check holders should keep in mind is to avoid putting too much personal information especially the social security number on the checks. This can make you more susceptible to fraud and identity theft.

Personalized checks are something that will never be outdated because even with the latest in technology some bank customers will still follow the traditional banking practice which has been tried and tested for a good number of years.

Transformers 3

My son is looking forward to watching Transformers 3. He enjoyed watching Transformers 1 and 2 and have seen it a hundred times! And he's really excited that it will be showing this coming week and told me already that he wants to see it in the big screen. I do hope the theaters won't be full when we watch or better yet, we'll just go early for the first screening.

Easy Reading

I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately, most of them chic lit ebooks. I have to say that not all of the words I encounter are in my vocabulary so I have to look up the word first to fully comprehend the meaning. Thanks to my cousin who gave me a franklin electronic pocket dictionary, looking words up is such a cinch. I don’t have to dig into those huge dictionaries for each word.

Fresh Catch

I remember on one of our nights in the island, we had freshly caught fish for dinner. One of the helpers there just took a small boat and waited in the surrounding waters of the island for the right moment to snare the fish. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. I don’t think there are wildlife in the island that could be hunted for food, or they could use a hunting rifle with those bushnell rifle scopes to hunt wild boar or such. That would be a real feast.

Missing Grey's Anatomy

One of the shows that I love to watch is grey’s anatomy. I learn a lot of medical stuff and also on how to handle emergencies. I also try to put myself sometimes on the shoes of the parents who have a sick child and how to deal with it. I really don’t know if I’ll be able to handle those kinds of situations wherein my children will get into an accident or will get sick which can lead to death. I always pray that I won’t be put in that kind of situation. Anyhow, sometimes, I also try to imagine myself what it would be like if I were a doctor wearing scrub suits just like this one http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/Original-Scrubs/ I don’t know if I’ll be able to operate and save the person. But I really like their scrubs which can be of different styles or colors just like cherokee scrub tops or those burnt orange scrubs for the male.

Back to grey’s anatomy, I heard that it will be the last season of Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo and I’m sure the last season will be a good one. I can’t wait to watch it!

Cute Chairs

We attended the first birthday party of one of the daughters of my friend. It was good seeing my friends again and my kids had a wonderful time. My son loved the food carts and my daughter enjoyed the games and the prizes that she got from joining the games and she also loved the magic show. Both kids now are enjoying the chair they got as loots and I don’t blame them. It’s really cute!!! It’s stylish and very useful. I’ll suggest this to friends who are looking for loots for their kids’ birthdays. :)

Outreach

I met a child a couple of days ago who thanked my friend for helping him gather funds for his operation. This child has a cleft lip that makes him difficult to talk. My friend helped him as his form of outreach and gathered funds and asked the help of his friends some of which are doctors to do the operation. Thankfully, the operation was successful and the child is doing ok. When we met the mother, she said that she felt that it was due to the Topamax she took when she was still pregnant. If she had known that this drug can cause his son to have cleft lip, she could have prevented from using it. My friend said that she could have filed a Topamax lawsuit to claim for liabilities but the mother said she won’t bother anymore since his son is ok already. But she took the name and contact numbers as well, in case she would know someone who needs their help. Here it is: O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath – Personal Injury Lawyers – 808 West Avenue, Austin, TX. 78701 – 512-494-9949

Cold Coffee

This is what my son calls Starbucks mocha frap. He enjoys it so much that he sometimes asks me if we can go there. He loves drinking it with chocolate cake; I know too much chocolate, right? Hehe! But I’m a chocolate lover so I’m sure he got that from me. My daughter loves it too that we both got them the grande size. Thanks to the coupon from the starbucks planner, we got the other one for free. :D

The Island

This is where I am right now; a remote island in Bicol which is owned by our company president. He has a house in that island so that’s where we will stay in the next three days. I’m a little scared because they don’t have electricity there and I’m the only girl which means I’ll be alone in the room. I do hope I won’t see any ghosts :D They have a generator but it’s working only from 7:00pm-10:30pm, so good luck to me hehe! I’ll just rely on my trusted flashlight so I’ll have night light when the genset is not running anymore. On the plus side though, the island is really nice! We went there last December and staying there just gives you the feeling of tranquility since nothing disturbs you at all. In the morning, you’ll just look at the waves and the birds flying, and if you want to exercise, you can run or walk on the entire island and it will take you less than an hour, or you can swim at the beach with no one to disturb you. I’m still thinking if I’ll be able to do either of those things on my 3 day stay. For now, I’ll just relax and pray that I won’t be visited by the ghosts hehe!

Excited

We’re planning on checking in again at Mandarin Oriental this month for a very special day. The kids had a blast last time we went there and loved swimming in pool so much that we decided to have another go. They have a kiddie pool that’s shallow enough that even Hannah could stand and keep her head up by herself, plus a huge main pool. The pool side is really cozy with several Adirondack furniture placed along the edge of the pool. We’ve told the kids about the plan and both are excited to go swimming there again.

Going On A Trip...

I’ll be going on another out-of-town trip tomorrow morning, to Bicol again, for another demo on the water filtration system that I handle at work. I’ll be gone for a total of three days. The first and third day will be spent on traveling to and from the province while the second day will be for the demo itself. I will surely miss the kids when I’m away. I just hope that the trip will be all worthwhile and would have very positive results!
